Douglas Fir Beam (Sawn)

Our Douglas Fir is sources from Bavaria (Germany) and Croatia.

Matured for a year or more we supply these as Green Beams for outside durability class 3 timber. Douglas Fir can be expected to give a long service life. Suitable for outside applications such as pergolas, seats, benches, general construction and gates. It is straight grained with a few knots.

Douglas Fir engineering data is shown below relative to other durable timbers. Douglas Fir is widely recognised for its superior strength to weight ratio with it having the highest strength rating of any softwood. It’s relative strength can be judged to various hardwoods in the table below.

We supply sawn and planed timber in stock sizes in 150, 125, 75, 50 and 25mm widths. Our Bavarian planed beams are supplied to C16, planed with eased edges and kiln dried to <20% moisture content.

Treatment is optional. Planed Douglas Fir has light reddish brown tones that can vary. Treatment with any of the popular finishes will give excellent results. Alternatively the timber can be left untreated and it will slowly silver with exposure to UV sunlight.

Beams as ordered are supplied sawn or planed. QEH can plane (as illustrated), shape and cut to order as required.
